Holts Tours is Britain’s leading Battlefield and History tour company. For more than 30 years we have organized tours to battlefields around the world as well as many places and areas of historic interest. All our tours are accompanied by our team of historians and battlefield guides – extremely knowledgeable, experienced and enthusiastic they will bring the period, the places and the people to life so that you get the most out of each day. You don’t need to be an expert – people come with us for a great variety of reasons, which adds to the enjoyment of each tour. If you do have special knowledge of an element of the tour, your contribution will be very welcome. This sharing of knowledge is just one of the factors which have led to our success. We also look after you very well, taking care of all travel and administration details so that you can just concentrate on learning and enjoying. On battlefield tours we study the battle ground, the strategy and tactics, the politics and personalities and, most importantly the men who fought and often died. Clear explanations of what happened, the use of maps and contemporary material tell the story and the narrative places the events in a wider historical context.

History is so often changed by war that it is usually impossible to look at one without the other – hindsight is interesting but we also need to take into account contemporary ways of thought, living and technology. It is a fascinating journey.

Some of our tours are mainly about the history - concentrating on the places, peoples, lifestyle and beliefs of a particular area or period. Here we use the art, architecture and writing – and the often-beautiful scenery - to tell the story, going beyond the overview offered on many escorted tours to give you a better understanding and much more interest.
